Welcome Letter!

Hello Pre-K Families,
My name is Ashley Joyner and I am so blessed to be your child’s prekindergarten teacher this year. This is my first year teaching and I can’t tell you how excited I am! I have a B.A in early childhood education from Georgia Southern University, Go Eagles!  I’m currently pursuing my Master’s in Instructional Technology from none other than GSU! When I’m not busy lesson planning or working on coursework, you can find me enjoying a book by the pool or spending time with my family and friends!
I anticipate a very busy and enriching year with your child. We will be following Georgia’s Pre-K Program Content Standards, which provide the foundation for instruction in all Georgia’s Pre-K classrooms. What is taught in Pre-K lays the foundation for expectations in Kindergarten! Keep in mind that these standards should reflect what the children should know at the end of the Pre-K year---not at the beginning.  You can check these out on the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning Bright from the Start’s website http://www.decal.ga.gov.  I have high expectations for all of my students, and hope that you will encourage your student at home by participating as much as possible in your child’s education.  Each week there will be skill practice activities in your ROCKS binder. I highly encourage parental involvement, as it enhances your students’ educational experience and keeps you well-informed to the goings-on in our classroom. We also will have lots of parent volunteer opportunities and I will be thrilled to have you there!

The below information is important and you are responsible for knowing it. Please maintain a copy for your records.

Email Address: ajoyner@bulloch.k12.ga.us
School Phone: 912-212-8780
School Day Hours: 7:50 am - 2:20 pm
Absences: If your child is going to be absent from school please let me know in the planner.  We require a phone call to parents after three unexcused absences or tardies; a parent conference after eight unexcused absences; and a referral to the Pre-K Consultant after ten absences. Children who do not attend class for 10 consecutive days without a medical or other reasonable explanation must be removed from the class.
Dress Code: Please read the Dress Code for our school located in the first few pages of your child’s planner. Remember, we’re going to get messy! We LOVE doing art activities in our room and have a sensory tub, so please wear clothes that you don’t mind washing! Don’t forget to send an extra change of clothes for your youngster in a Ziploc bag!
Classroom Newsletter: A class room newsletter will be sent home with your students every Monday! It will outline our learning goals and objectives, special events, class announcements, and other pertinent information. It is your responsibility to read this newsletter and to be responsible for the information contained within.
Birthday Treats: You are welcome to send in/bring in treats for your child’s birthday. Please make sure that your have enough to serve 25 students. It is helpful if I know in advance that you are sending/bringing them so that I can accommodate time for treats in our schedule. Thanks!
Breakfast: Pre-Kindergarten classes eat breakfast together as a class. The cost for school breakfast is $1. We do allow parents to send in boxes of cereal if you don’t want your child eating school breakfast. With that being said, your student will have the option of having cereal, fruit, and some sort of breakfast bar OR a big hot breakfast if you decide to allow them to have school breakfast. It’s a really nice deal for the amt of food!
Lunch: Our class will eat lunch from 12:10-12:42 every day. Your student has the opportunity to pack a lunch from home or buy a lunch from the cafeteria. Please refer to the menu sent home in the ROCKS binder! Lunch costs $1.80. Pay for school meals on line with “MY LUNCH MONEY” Easy-to-use, convenient, private and secure.  Simply go to the www.myLunchMoney.com website Call 800-479-3531 or visit www.myLunchMoney.com for more information.
Notes to the Teacher: If you ever need to send me a note, please write it directly in the child’s planner or put it in the pocket of your child’s ROCKS binder. I will communicate with you the same way, and occasionally through email/phone calls. Always discuss a change in transportation with your child, and alert them to the note and where you put it so that they are aware!
Class Website: You can check in on our daily activities on my blog http://joynersjammers.blogspot.com/! Be sure to sign the permission slip indicating whether or not you would like your child to be included in pictures. We will post as much as possible so that you can really experience your child’s first year at school!  I’m very new to blogging, so be patient with me!
Please feel free to contact me at anytime. You can email me at ajoyner@bulloch.k12.ga.us or you can leave me a message with the school phone number!  I cannot guarantee that I will be able to check it during the day, and may not get to them until after the students have been dismissed. I will respond to as soon as possible! Thank you and let’s make this year a fabulous year in pre-k! Let the good times roll!

Peace,
Ms. Ashley Joyner
