My
name is Ashley Joyner and I am so blessed to be your child’s kindergarten
teacher this year. This is my second year teaching and my third year on staff
here at Mill Creek Elementary. I have a B.A. in Early Childhood Education from
Georgia Southern University (Go Eagles!) I am currently pursuing my Master’s in
Instructional Technology from GSU, and expect to complete that degree in the
fall of 2014. When I’m not busy lesson planning or completing course work, you
can find me enjoying time with my family (including my two French Bulldogs:
Little Man & Bibi Loudermilk), reading, cooking, or cheering the Eagles
onto victory at Paulson Stadium.
I
anticipate a very busy and enriching year with your child. While all subjects
and skills will be taught, you can expect an increased emphasis on reading, writing,
and math during kindergarten. You will be amazed at the progress you see
throughout the school year. I have high expectations for all of my students,
and hope that you will encourage your student at home by reading with your
jammer each and every night! “Children are made readers on the laps of their
parents.” (Emilie Buchwald) I highly encourage parental involvement, as it enhances
your students’ educational experience and keeps you well-informed to the
goings-on in our classroom. I hope that many of you have the opportunity to
visit our classroom during the school year so you can see our curriculum in
action!
The
information below is important and you are responsible for knowing it.
Please
maintain a copy for your records.
·
School Day Hours: 7:50am-2:20pm
·
Planners: Each
child will be given a MCES Planner to use for this school year. The planner
will be used to communicate with you. Thus, it is important that you check your
child’s planner EVERY day. Parents
are expected to check the planner each night and initial the planner.
The planner should be returned every day.
·
ROCKS Binder:
All students in my class will have a ROCKS binder. Information about this
binder is found in a clear pocket inside it.
·
Transportation: If there are any changes in a child’s regular transportation
routine, please notify me through the ROCKS binder. If you must make a last
minute emergency change, please call the front office. We must have a note from
the parent/guardian approving the change.
·
Behavior Management: Please read about our Rockin’ Behavior
Management System in your child’s ROCKS binder.
·
Classroom Newsletter: A classroom newsletter will be sent home with
your students on weekly bases. It will outline our learning goals and
objectives, special events, class announcements, and other pertinent
information. It is your responsibility to read this newsletter and to be
responsible for the information contained within.
·
Birthday Treats: You are welcome to send in treats for your
child’s birthday. Please make sure they are store-bought and that you have
enough to serve 22 students. It is helpful if I know in advance that you are
sending them so that I can accommodate students with allergies! Thanks!
·
Breakfast: All
students have the opportunity to eat breakfast at school before coming to the
classroom. Please refer to the menu sent home monthly by Food Services to know
what will be served. Breakfast costs $ 1.00 for full paying students & $
0.30 for reduced students.
·
Rest Time:
We have a thirty minute rest time each day. Students are welcome to bring in
blankets and small pillows. Please do not send in full sized pillows. Full
sized pillows don’t fit inside student cubbies. We will send home blankets on
Fridays!
·
Lunch: Our
class will eat lunch from 10:50-11:02 every day. Please feel welcome to join us! Your student
has the opportunity to pack a lunch from home or buy a lunch from the
cafeteria. Lunch costs $ 1.80 for paying students & $ 0.40 for reduced
students. To pay lunch bills quickly and efficiently, you can do so online at www.myLunchMoney.com.
·
Class
